Pushing the boundaries with photography often has the connotation of initial criticism. After all, most humans aren’t used to expressions that are out of the ordinary, especially when they’re artistic efforts. Even with the modern era being the most accepting, there are plenty of fields in the art world that are still left to be explored that’ll face an odd reaction in the beginning.
New and unusual tends to be accompanied by the phrase avant-garde. Whether it’s bands like Sonic Youth, Sunn O))), or Swans who pushed boundaries on the rock spectrum or artists such as John Cage or Andy Warhol, all of it falls under the avant-garde genre. So, what is avant-garde and how can it apply to photography? Check out the video above from nationalgalleries for more information!
