Introduction

Camera bags are essential in the world of photography. Besides the ability to easily carry a camera, there are several things every camera bag should have. In this article, we’re going to take a look at what you should carry in your camera bag.

ND Filters — Landscape photographers love ND Filters to get silky smooth flowing water and existing light portrait photographers use them to achieve wide apertures in brighter light. I recommend two — they’re both reasonably priced yet have great performance – make sure you get the correct size to fit your lens:

Circular Polarizer — A Circular Polarizer will deepen colors and remove glare. Again, make sure you get the size that fits your lens.

Lens Filter Wrenches — If you’re like me, you’ve probably inadvertently screwed a filter on a lens a bit too tight then struggled to get it removed. Lens filter wrenches are a must and you’ll be shocked at how effective they are.

Compact Lens Cleaning Kit — Lenses get dust and smudges on them all of the time. A compact lens cleaning kit is a must.

Microfiber Cloth — A large microfiber cloth is great to wipe equipment down when it gets wet or to cover a camera if unexpected rain hits. I like this Dunlop guitar microfiber cloth. It’s better than any camera cloth that I’ve used.

Rain Covers — You cannot allow precipitation to ruin your gear. Rain covers are cheap yet effective. I have two that I recommend — The first one is a use once and toss away cover and the other is more permanent.

Remote Shutter Release — A remote shutter release is a must when you’re using slower shutter speeds or whenever you want to minimize camera shake. I like this model because it’s easy to use and reasonably priced. You’ll need to get the release that is compatible with your model camera.

Jeweler’s Screwdrivers — Screws on our gear often come loose and this small kit will come in handy.

Flashlight — Finally, a small flashlight can be a lifesaver. I love these small, light tactical flashlights. They’re incredibly bright and use a rechargeable battery that is included.
